Royal and Rustic – Fall Winter 2017-18 Artist Statement

Fall Winter 2017-18 Royal and Rustic Ivey Abitz Crest
We all create our own legacy, moulding our very own heraldic coat of arms through our deeds and words of kindness.

The new Fall Winter collection, “Royal and Rustic,” embodies the philosophy of Ivey Abitz that we all have the same intrinsic value, and our clothing celebrates that universal human value.

We all create our own legacy, moulding our very own heraldic coat of arms through our deeds and words of kindness.

We are all royal…and rustic.

These ideas come alive in visual form through juxtaposing the finery of royal silk weaves with the equally beautiful rusticity of raw edged woolens.

The “Royal and Rustic” palette represents the intermingling of the two seemingly different worlds with royal gem hues like Sapphire and Emerald; rustic hues like Tilled Field and River. By combining the two, we realize that there is no distinction in beauty or intrinsic value.

We are all gems in a crown. We are all earth in a field.

We reinterpret the purpose of heraldic battle and familial crests and use them as symbols of peace and equality within the new collection. Antique royal military buttons are given new purpose. Once a symbol of war and battle, we commandeer them and adorn elegantly purposeful women’s clothing for everyday peaceful living.

New garment designs echo these ideas as well. Royal coat of arms are represented in the detail of the the new Heraldry Duster Coat and Heraldry Frock. Rustic crop fields tilled by farmers are represented in the detail of the new Tilling Frock. They are representational art that can be comfortably worn for everyday life.

I hope you can see these ideas at work in the Fall Winter Look Book and throughout your Ivey Abitz wardrobe.
