Animal Saints Rescue Society Success Story

Featured Animal Saint: Poppy

Poppy was found as a stray on a side street in a large urban city. She was found dragging her back legs behind her, unable to walk. A good samaritan family found her and rushed her to the nearby animal control. Animal Saints was asked to help when no one else was stepping up to get her out of the overcrowded facility alive. At only 5 years of age, Poppy had a lot of life left in her. She just needed a second chance.

Animal Saints was ready to set her up with a hind leg cart, but we wanted to try physical therapy and laser therapy first. Dr. Dori of Dawgfit, a New York canine physical therapist, helped with the initial exercises and care. Cynthia Ivey Abitz, the director of Animal Saints, oversaw her daily exercises and care. To everyone’s delight and amazement, Poppy can walk again! After several months of therapy, she can now walk 2-3 miles in one stretch. She even RUNS without a limp! Poppy is now well enough to be spayed, and she will receive this surgery and a dental this spring.

Poppy is an example to never give up on these dear Animal Saints. Their patience and fortitude reminds us mere humans how to live life to the fullest.
