Description
The Roebling Frock, also known as our Brooklyn Bridge Frock, gives you a connection to the past and future. This original Ivey Abitz design is made just for you in New York.
Get to Know Roebling
Washington Roebling started the bridge, and during an illness that kept him bedridden, his wife Emily Warren Roebling finished it. This design is in honour of their collective fortitude to create something that so many said was frivolous and could not be done. They went on anyway, taking fourteen years to construct, and finished in 1883. It still stands as an icon known around the world, and its design details transcend a specific time. It was relevant when it was first built. It is relevant today. It will be relevant for generations to come.
The Roebling Frock is inspired by such relevance. Inspired by its gothic cutouts and trio of pediments in the towers, the Roebling Frock’s bottom hem is in intricate work of art, one that transcends time. Yet it is incredibly sturdy and so easy to wear. It flows and moves so easily whilst you move through everyday life.
Subtle darting at the chest and gentle tailoring in at the waist creates a comfortable silhouette. A slight a-line gives you ease of movement with incredible texture and detail along the bottom hem.
Optional thin wraparound ties allow you to cinch in the waist as needed. If you prefer a looser fit through the waist, please order the Roebling without the ties.
Fabric
The Roebling is available as shown in a mix of linens and cottons from Europe and ribbed viscose knit woven here in the United States.
Ensemble Suggestions
The Roebling Frock is best worn with a cardigan or cropped jacket so its bottom hem detail can be appreciated, like the Limited Edition Coulson Cardigan, the Hudson Jacket, or Eugenia Jacket. For duster coats and outerwear, we suggest something like the Chittister Shirt Jacket or Ellis Jacket — something that sits above the Roebling’s bottom hem or has a cutaway to show the splendour and span of the Roebling’s skirting.
