Ivey Abitz garments are not about size, they are about fit and feel.
Women can use clever ties and tabs on shirts to make a boxy-type jacket or a corset-like, waist-fitted shirt. Men can use the convertible cuffs of the Freddy Shirt to give different sleeve lengths and looks. Designs have an ease and versatility that celebrate your womanly curves or your manly stature (as the case may be).
Most designs come in five sizes: X-Small, Small, Medium, Large, X-Large. Specific measurements for each size garment are listed on the garment detail pages.
NOTE: These are NOT body measurements. Rather, these are measurements of the garment as it lays on a flat surface. You may need to measure some of your other clothes in this manner in order to get a sense for how our garments will fit you.
across front of chest from side seam to side seam, just underneath sleeve openings
across front bottom hem from side seam to side seam (hip measurement)
across front of hip, 7 inches below natural waistline on dress
across the front at hips from side seam to side seam, 12 inches below the top of the waist
across the front at waistline from side seam to side seam
sleeve measurement, from top of sleeve seam to bottom edge of cuff or sleeve opening
length from top of waist to bottom hem
Note:
Some shirts do not have sleeve measurements because they are a 3/4 length sleeve and are meant to fit all arm lengths.
Skirt waistline charts show a range (for example, 15-21 inches) due to the flat front/elastic back option for skirts and trousers. If you're ordering a drawstring waist, the waist is a freer opening and opens up to the width of the trousers.
If the trouser hip measurement seems larger than you'd expect, it is because the trouser has a skirt-like flow. They are slimming at the waist and have an a-line flow down to the ankles.

When your garments need washing, please follow these basic steps.
The vast majority of fabric in any Ivey Abitz collection is machine washable. Silk spun taffeta should be dry cleaned only. (This is the silk manufacturer's recommendation. Though we've had good results in our washing machines, you assume all risk if you try it!)
Hand dyed garments should always be washed separately on the delicate cycle, or by hand washing in cold water only. Bleeding may occur, especially in darker hues.
Never pour detergent directly on natural fabrics. Always dilute the detergent in the wash tub first.
A cold water wash on a delicate cycle in a washing machine, or hand washing in cold water, is best for all fabrics. We recommend only natural soaps, or those that do not have chemicals or dyes listed in the ingredients. Do not use fabric softener, as it can cause spotting on the garments over time.
Tumble dry on very low heat with a dryer sheet or two.
Ivey Abitz makes certain that the natural fibers in our clothing require natural care, and they try to avoid dry cleaning as much as possible. There might be personal exceptions that you might want to make, like for a thick wool coat, but over 90% of the fabrics in all four seasons can be cared for at home.
The care for your Ivey Abitz garments is really that simple. Worn regularly, natural fibers will eventually show signs of wear, and you should view this as a unique patina that tells your story. Like a fine antique or a handmade pair of leather shoes, the garments are meant to age, tell a story, and get better with time.

Updated 04-03-09 Check the Layaway box on the shopping basket checkout page. We will charge your credit card for 50% of the entire order, then charge the balance automatically to the same card when the garments are ready to ship - usually 4 to 6 weeks from the order date. For orders over $2,000.00, the 50% balance will be split into two equal payments: the first will be charged 3 weeks after the order date, and the second will be charged when the order ships. There is no fee for layaway. Layaway is not available for rush orders. Layaway orders are subject to the same terms as normal orders: non-cancelable, non-refundable. If balance is not paid within 30 days of finish date, then 10% interest on the balance will be added. If no payment is made within 60 days of finish date, then an additional 10% interest will be charged, order will be canceled, and entire deposit will be forfeited as a restocking fee.
Please pay when you place your order. Made-to-Order garments are usually complete in 4 to 6 weeks from payment date. No returns, refunds, or exchanges on made-to-order garments.
Non-sale sample items may be returned within 5 days of delivery for credit only, and must be in perfect, unworn condition. Customer pays return shipping and bears responsibility until received by us. Otherwise, Made-to-Order and SALE garments are non-returnable, non-exchangeable, non-refundable.
Depending on the production schedule, Rush Orders are usually complete 2 weeks from the date of payment and are shipped UPS Next Day Air. We will add a 20% premium plus overnight shipping cost for rush orders.
We ship USPS Priority Mail with delivery confirmation and send you an email when your package ships. Overnight shipments are sent via UPS Next Day Air. Regular shipping rates in the U.S.A. are $10.00 for the first item and $2.50 for each additional item. International Priority Mail orders will be charged additional shipping as appropriate, and they tend to start around $25 for Canada and $35 overseas.
